The Bachelor of Applied Interior Design program in the department of Interior Design and Art History has been designed to provide the skills and experience required to help you make your contribution. Mount Royal University's respected Interior Design degree has the distinction of being one of only five CIDA accredited undergraduate programs in Canada. This rigorous certification means that students are ensured of an educational program of extremely high quality and that your degree will be well-respected in the workplace, paving the way for your future success as a designer.

Interior designers do much more than create innovative environments for living, working, entertainment, and healing. Today's professional interior designers use their talents to increase economic and operational efficiency, protect public safety, promote health and welfare, and develop processes and environments that can profoundly influence the quality of people's lives. Mount Royal's Interior Design program will prepare you for this dynamic profession through a combination of theory and studio-based projects with paid work experience through Directed Field Studies.

The strong bond between Mount Royal and the design community has resulted in the industry creating student awards and scholarships ― 50 scholarships are awarded each year, totalling more than $50,000. Industry recognition

Mount Royal’s Bachelor of Applied Interior Design is one of only five undergraduate-level programs in Western Canada accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). This distinction ensures that our program is of the highest quality and that our graduates continue to be highly sought after in the design industry.

A Career in Interior Design

Graduates are in high demand. Graduates have begun successful careers across Canada and around the world including: Toronto, Montreal, New York, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, London and Barbados.

As a Professional Interior designer - you will have the opportunity to apply your creativity to design solutions that are engaging, inventive, safe, functional, and appropriate. Your successful design practice will be fueled by business savvy, professional discipline, organization, and strong communication and interpersonal skills. You may choose to work in established interior design or architectural firms or to launch your own business as your career and expertise grows.

Further education

Some graduates have used their Mount Royal University degree to pursue master’s programs in interior design, environmental studies, architecture, visual communication and business.

A space designed for learning

The Interior Design program at Mount Royal University boasts dedicated facilities specifically designed to enhance design education: including studio spaces, an in-house design Resource Centre, dedicated Interior Design computer lab with our printing/plotting centre, and multi-use education spaces.
