Laurie Lancaster is an Associate Professor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon and her Masters of Business Administration, Entrepreneurship and Marketing, from the University of Calgary in 1989. Since joining Mount Royal in 2005, Laurie has taught introductory and advanced courses in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Creativity, Product Management and Marketing. Laurie has taken a leadership role in the renewal and design of the entrepreneurship curriculum at Mount Royal as well as the recent introduction of the Concentration in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. She also served as Assistant Chair of Innovation and Entrepreneurship for three years.
In the classroom, Laurie encourages her students to build their creative confidence through curiosity, experimentation, imagination, challenging their comfort zones and reflection. Areas of research interest include curiosity and creativity as well as leadership and product management in entrepreneurial ventures.
Laurie has a broad range of entrepreneurial, business development and marketing experience. As part-owner of several ventures in diverse industries including home renovation, fiberglass manufacturing and equestrian, Laurie focused on product design, business strategy and marketing. As principle of Focus Forward Business Coaching, she has consulted with a variety of small businesses providing venture development guidance through workshops and one-on-one coaching.
