Dr. Buchart brings to the Bissett School of Business over 30 years of business, leadership , and learning and organizational development experience. She spent 14 years in the Canadian Forces Reserve, where for six years, she held the position of a Senior Training Officer. In this position she was responsible for overseeing training operations for over 1200 trainees and 189 staff members. Lori retired as a Lieutenant-Commander in 1996.
Lori worked in the Faculty of Continuing Education and Extension at Mount Royal as a Program Development and Banner Systems Implementation Coordinator. She also spearheaded the implementation of FOIP Privacy Legislation within the Faculty. Prior to assuming a full-time position in Fall of 2007 in the Bissett School of Business, Lori taught part-time for three years and one year in a Term-Certain Position.
Lori’s areas of interest are Management and Leadership Development, Human Resources, Learning and Organizational Development. and delivering business curriculum with a compassionate head and heart approach. Lori strives to stay current in her profession through consulting. Her clients have included but are not limited to the City of Calgary, Alberta Energy and Utilities Board, Catalyst Accounting, Gibson's Energy, Calgary United Way, Alberta Theatre Projects, EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts, Critical Mass, and Westjet Airlines,
Lori completed a Master of Arts in Leadership and Training. Her thesis focused on leadership strategies that foster improved working relationships. She successfully defended her doctoral dissertation, which focused on Learning and Development Initiatives for faculty in an undergraduate university in transition. Lori currently volunteers with Wellspring Calgary’s Return to Work Program for Cancer survivors. Through this initiative, she is introduced first-hand to the concerns that cancer patients have when returning to work. Lori’s research interest is in the area of providing human resource and other business professionals with insights as well as strategies they can implement to ensure their organizations have more successful rates of return as well as ensure as little disruption as possible when an employee returns to work after a life-threatening cancer diagnosis.
