Education: Lynne completed her doctoral dissertation in field of nutritional oncology at the University of Manitoba. Lynne received a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) grant to study the impact of various nutrients on the aetiology of colon cancer development in the experimental rat colon model. Her research specifically evaluated the potential modulating capacity of dietary calcium in both early and late intervention stages on the growth of aberrant crypt foci and tumour outcome. Lynne completed her Bachelor of Human Ecology at the University of Manitoba in the Foods and Nutrition dietetics stream.

Current Work: Lynne teaches in both the Bachelor of Nursing program as well as Physical Education University Transfer program. She coordinates the introductory nutrition course curriculum for those departments. In addition to teaching and coordinating nutrition, she also teaches the research methods and statistics course for Physical Education students.

Instructor Profile: Lynne joined the department of Physical Education in 2004. She developed a university level, fully on-line nutrition course for e-Campus Alberta. Currently her focus is on the integration of blended delivery (on-line and face to face).

Lynne has been invited to speak across Canada on her research focusing on the relationship between nutrition and human health. These conferences include the XII World Congress on Clinical Nutrition, Wellness and Holistic Health: Implications for Practice, Exploring Health and Healing, and the Body Heals.

Lynne is passionate about her role as an instructor at Mount Royal. She has a keen interest in integrating technology with teaching and has developed a unique online introductory nutrition course in this venture. The opportunity to share knowledge and stretch minds is a rewarding endeavour paramount in her career goals.

Community Service/Research Interests:

Lynne has served as website coordinator for the Physical Education department since 2005. She volunteers her time in the larger community presenting various nutrition seminars to specialty groups such as the Team in Training – Running for the Cause: Leukemia and Lymphoma group.

Lynne’s current research interests focus on the relationship between nutrition education and health. She has received a National grant from the Canadian Council on Learning (CCL) to create a Canadian nutrition evaluation tool to measure behaviours, attitudes, and nutrition knowledge (Canadian BANKS).

In addition, Lynne is involved in investigating the potential role of nutrition education as an intervention technique in the management of perceived stress among college students. This research study was part of a larger research project entitled Stressing Student Success. As part of this research group, Lynne was awarded with the Mount Royal Effective Team Award in 2007.
