Rik Smistad holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Calgary, a Master of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of British Columbia and is working on his Doctor of Business Administration through SMC University in Switzerland. Rik is a Chartered Accountant and Chair of the Accounting Area at the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal University.

Rik brings many years of financial experience to the classroom. He articled with Touche Ross & Co. (currently Deloitte) and has held staff and managerial positions in accounting, audit, finance and treasury with some of Canada’s leading companies including Trizec Corporation, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Canadian Pacific Railway and AltaGas.

Rik’s research interests are in the areas of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, and project finance. Prior to accepting a position at Mount Royal, Rik taught courses in finance and accounting at SAIT and the University of Calgary.
