Rik Smistad holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Calgary, A Master of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of British Columbia and is a Chartered Accountant.
Rik brings many years of financial experience to the classroom. He articled with Touche Ross & Co. (currently Deloitte & Touche) and has held managerial positions in accounting, audit, finance and treasury with some of Canada’s leading companies including Trizec Corporation, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Canadian Pacific Railway and most recently AltaGas Income Trust.
Rik is also involved with a nonprofit company doing research on innovation. Prior to accepting a tenure-track position at Mount Royal, he taught course work in financial accounting at SAIT and futures and options at the University of Calgary.
