Susan graduated with a B.A. from the University of Toronto in 1975, majoring in Economics and Anthropology. She then obtained her MBA from York University in 1977. Her major was in Behavioural Sciences.
Susan's work experience includes affiliations with a variety of private and public sector organizations. She has also been involved in management consulting, both with an international management consulting firm and with her own practice. She specializes in the areas of strategic planning, corporate culture, human resource management, diversity, recruitment and selection, career pathing, conflict resolution, teambuilding, change management, entrepreneurialism, performance management, ethics in the workplace and corporate social responsibility. She has consulted to a variety of clients and has conducted research in these areas. Susan has skills in the areas of research, facilitation, problem identification and resolution and client presentations. As a business practitioner, her philosophy is to be solutions-focused and practical.
From 1982 to 1988, Susan was an assistant professor in the Faculty of Business at the University of Regina. She taught a variety of management and human resources courses. She also initiated, lobbied for, developed and delivered an introductory administration course for native students, on and off campus, using teletraining techniques, through the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College, affiliated with the U of R.
In 1989, Susan joined Mount Royal's Department of Business. In addition to teaching management and human resources courses, Susan was the co-ordinator of the Human Resources program from 1989 to 1996. During that time, she established the Human Resources Advisory Group. She was also the acting chair of the Department from 1995 to 1996. She designed and delivered contracted credit programs to various aboriginal bands in Southern Alberta. She also researched, designed and authored a textbook on entrepreneurialism for a course in the Entrepreneurial degree program.
Susan is a certified Myers-Briggs practitioner and is a Certified Human Resources Practitioner (CHRP). She is also active in the Human Resource Association of Calgary, the Human Resources Institute of Alberta, the Calgary Network for Equity and Diversity, the Human Rights Caseworkers Network, the Ethics Practitioners Association of Canada and Transparency International.
