Shirley has been with the Bissett School of Business since 1998. During that time, she has taught in the areas of management, organizational behaviour and general business. She served as program chair from 2000-2003 and was responsible for programs in the Marketing, Human Resources, General Business and Aviation areas.
She served on the Alberta Aviation Council Board of Directors and is Vice-President of the Canadian Association of Aviation Colleges. In addition to her on-campus duties, Shirley attends many conferences and workshops in the fields of business ethics, organizational psychology and aviation safety management systems. She has authored test banks and study guides, as well as co-authoring textbooks in management and introduction to business. She regularly reviews new texts for several publishers.
Shirley received her Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of New Brunswick in 1980. She then moved to Alberta to assume a position with the Alberta Provincial Government. After some time in industry, Shirley returned to university and completed an MBA at the University of Calgary in 1989. Upon completion of the MBA, Shirley taught in a variety of full and part-time positions at the University of New Brunswick, Athabasca University, Simon Fraser University, University of Calgary, University of Lethbridge and the University College of the Cariboo. She was accepted into a PhD program at the University of Bath in the U.K. during her time at UNB and completed two years of study. Her research has been in the area of involuntary job loss.
