Tom joined Mount Royal after a 25 year career in the private sector. After completing his MBA at the University of British Columbia, he joined Petro–Canada (downstream) spending 20 years in progressively responsible management roles. During this time he gained experience in retail and wholesale operations as well as a variety of financial and analytical support functions including participation in the retail reengineering team. His management roles at the regional level included Credit Manager, Certigard Franchise Manager, and Retail Operations Manager.
 
He then joined Blockbuster Canada spending five years as the Regional Director of Operations for Western Canada. During his tenure the business grew to include 126 stores and over 1300 employees. After a short stint in Management with Wal-Mart, Tom joined Mount Royal where he now enjoys relating his past management experience to areas being studied by his students.
