In Fall 2000, Wendelin Fraser was appointed Dean of the Bissett School of Business, at Mount Royal College where she is responsible for a broad range of college, university transfer and applied baccalaureate business programs. Currently almost 2,000 business students are enrolled in two and four year business related programs.
Since joining Mount Royal College in Fall 2000, five (5) new applied business degrees have been launched, in September 2003 the School of Business has moved into a new purpose built 115,000 sq. ft. building, and the School of Business has assumed responsibility for the Nonprofit Institute and Nonprofit applied degree. Ms. Fraser is also responsible for the nationally recognized MRC Aviation Program, a program that has combined academics and flight training for 35 years.
Recent awards include: Mount Royal College Distinguished Manager of the Year and Most Supportive Dean of the Year at the national conference of Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE) in 2004; an Excellence Award presented by the Mount Royal College Student Association in 2005; and a Volunteer of the Year award presented by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce in 2006.
Ms. Fraser, a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan (BA) and Simon Fraser University (MBA), has worked in progressively more senior positions in four western universities over the past 28 years. She held positions at Simon Fraser University for 11 years, including Director, Business Programs, Harbour Centre Campus as well as joint positions as Director for the Council for North American Business Studies, and Executive Director for the Scotiabank Resource Centre for Women Entrepreneurs. She also held positions at the BC Open University (Dean, Business and Administrative Studies), the Institute of Urban Studies, University of Winnipeg; and at the Canadian Plains Research Center, University of Regina. Prior to her work in post-secondary institutions, she worked in the bookselling and publishing industry.
Ms. Fraser has been an active board and committee member in numerous organizations including: Association of Canadian College Schools of Business (President), Calgary Chamber of Commerce (Chair, Education and Training Committee and Career Show), Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta, Government House Foundation (Alberta Chapter), Leadership Vancouver, Design Vancouver, Social Science Federation of Canada, Association of Canadian Publishers, Western Canadian Pictorial Index, Woodsworth House Historical Society, Artspace (Founding Member and Chair of this Winnipeg project), Prairie Publishers’ Group (Chair) and the Canadian Periodical Publishers' Association.
