Public Relations Professor
Vicki Barnett, BA (English), BA (Journalism), MCS (Communications Studies), MA (Leadership), has more than a decade of experience working in senior roles in the private and public sectors in public relations, as well as in teaching public relations.
Vicki has taught at three Calgary post-secondary institutions where she has led courses such as issues and crisis management, social media for PR, strategic communications planning, communications research, employee communications and introduction to public relations. As well as instructing Mount Royal public relations students in Applied Writing I and II, she has taught Specialized Writing to journalism students. Vicki also teaches in the Public Relations Extension Certificate program at Mount Royal.
Her extensive experience in public relations with Calgary organizations includes working as a communications director at the University of Calgary and as the
communications manager at Calgary Fire Department. She has also held communications positions at TransCanada Corp, the National Energy Board,
Parallel Strategies marketing firm, and Iradesso, an investor relations company.
Prior to her public relations career, Vicki worked for the Calgary Herald as a journalist, columnist and editorial writer.
