Mount Royal’s School of Nursing and Midwifery is dedicated to translating and creating knowledge through education and scholarship to advance nursing and midwifery education and practice. The Centre for Nursing/Midwifery Education Scholarship and Teaching (CSMN has been established to foster faculty development in teaching, research and scholarship.

Inspiring progress within the Faculty of Nursing, CSMN provides development resources and a platform for collaboration between educators and scholars alike. The centre will also provide:

Orientation for New Faculty

In collaboration with the ADC (Academic Development Centre) institutional orientation, the Nurse Education Scholar provides nursing program specific orientation. This is ongoing
throughout the first year of employment in the School of Nursing and Midwifery for full time faculty, and designed to complement the Academic Development Centre orientation.

Clinical Faculty Orientation

Each newly hired clinical faculty member is provided with a program orientation by the Nurse Education Scholar. This orientation includes processes of teaching, evaluation and scholarship specific to the School of Nursing and Midwifery as well as expectations for faculty performance.

ColloquiaFaculty who have attended professional development activities beyond MRU are invited to share their experience and new information in a colloquim format. Faculty who have obtained PD funds from MRU are encouraged to participate in this activity. Guest speakers are also brought in to discuss scholarship, teaching or research concepts.Pedagogical  Dialogue

Teaching / learning conundrums are discussed. The topics are chosen by faculty with particular interests.

Faculty Dialogue (Thursday’s Thoughts)

Each Thursday from 11-12 we provide opportunities for discussion on specific topics related to teaching, research and scholarship for faculty:

  • 1st Thursday = research methods and topics
  • 2nd Thursday = teaching methods and topics
  • 3rd Thursday = professional practice & leadership
  • 4th Thursday = publication & scholarship

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

Faculty interested in expanding their understanding of the learning that occurs in their classrooms are supported in their research program. Faculty are also supported by ADC and the Institute for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Teaching, Research and Scholarship Consultations

The Nurse Education Scholar is also available by appointment for one on one consultations related to teaching, research or general scholarship questions.
