Nicola (Nicki) Waters joined the faculty of the Bachelor of Nursing program at Mount Royal University in Calgary in 2008. Nicola graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Mid-Essex School of Nursing in the U.K. After moving to Alberta in 1992 she held a variety of nursing positions including adult and pediatric post anesthetic recovery, palliative care and home care during which time she developed a strong interest in wound healing. Nicki is a former member of the Calgary Health Region Skin and Wound Assessment Team (SWAT) and has also worked as Area Manager in the wound care industry. Her research areas of interest include the psychosocial impact of wounds and the social organization of wound care practice. She obtained her MSc. in Wound Healing and Tissue Repair from the University of Cardiff . Her MSc. thesis is entitled "A Survey of Patients' Perceptions of the Impact of Diabetic Foot Ulcers on Employment". Nicola is currently enrolled in the Doctoral Program at the University of Calgary, School of Nursing. She has published and presented nationally and internationally and serves as peer reviewer for a number of nursing and wound care journals. She is currently serving on the conference organizing committee of The Canadian Association of Wound Care and on the website committee for the Wound Healing Society. Nicki is also a member of The Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society and The Association for the Advancement of Wound Care.
