We are pleased to announce that Dr. Janne Holmgren, Associate Professor in the Department of Justice Studies, was appointed by the Provost & VP Academic as the Director of the Centre for Criminology and Justice Research (CCJR), effective August 15, 2012. Dr. John Winterdyk served as Director of the CCJR since its inception in January 2010. We would like to thank Dr. Winterdyk for his efforts in establishing the Centre using a significant grant from Alberta Justice, and for his undertakings in stewarding that grant funding in a very short timeframe.
As Director, Dr. Holmgren will pursue collaboration between students, faculty and community partners. The mandate for research centres at MRU is to support the institution's mandate as a teaching-focused, scholarly-informed university. In alignment with this mandate, the CCJR exists to support faculty and student scholarly pursuits. Dr. Holmgren has experience working directly with the CCJR, the Office of Research Services and has collaborated on research with other individuals in the Faculty of Health and Community Studies including the Centre for Child Well-Being, the Integrative Health Institute, and the Forensic Research Network.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Holmgren as incoming Director of the CCJR.

The Centre is the first of its type in Alberta whose initial mandate is to assist Alberta Justice by providing evidence-based research and reports on key issues of interest to the Ministry.
The CCJR collaborates with Mount Royal University faculty, internationally recognized scholars and industry experts, students and community members. This collaboration promotes new ideas and innovations, and gives students and faculty the opportunity to participate in the development of academic research and be a part of its practical application and implementation.
