Karen has been a part-time faculty member in the Advanced Studies in Perinatal and Neonatal (formerly Maternal Infant Child Healthcare) program since 1988 and was instrumental in the conversion of the ASPN program to distance delivery format. She teaches theory and clinical courses, as well as writes many courses.
Karen has more than 30 years of nursing experience: NICU staff nurse/transport and NICU instructor at the Foothills Medical Centre, rural staff nurse and staff development coordinator at the Drayton Valley Health Complex, consultant, and pediatric ICU staff nurse at Alberta Children’s Hospital. Karen currently works as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Neonatal Transition Team (NTT), Postpartum Services in the Calgary Health Region. The NTT is the only program of its kind in Canada providing post-discharge comprehensive follow-up for very-low-birth-weight infants and their families.
Karen is the Western Director-at-Large of the Canadian Association of Neonatal Nurses (CANN) and the co-chair for the 3rd annual CANN national conference to be held in Calgary, February 20-22, 2011.
