Whenever health care and the legal systems intersect, professionals with forensic knowledge and skills have an important role to play. They apply clinical and scientific knowledge to preserve, collect and document forensic evidence as well as to provide appropriate care. This certificate is designed for nurses, physicians, social workers, scientists, mental health professionals, police officers, lawyers, laboratory technicians, paramedics or other professionals seeking to establish or expand qualifications in forensic studies.
Approximate tuition costs for Fall are $526.08 per course (Canadian) and $1,008.98 per course (International).

Multidisciplinary health care teams work closely with the survivors of traumatic injury or violence and with offenders and other professionals such as law enforcement. By focusing on ‘living forensic issues,’ you will gain an understanding that will enable you to aid in the prevention of violence.

Transfer capability
Out — Many universities accept Mount Royal University's Forensic Studies courses toward either senior level baccalaureate or the first year of master's programs. Some institutions in Canada and the U.S. have already evaluated and approved Mount Royal University courses, but you should check with the institute you plan to transfer to before registering for any courses.
In — Some courses from other educational institutions have been approved by Mount Royal University as transfer courses toward the Forensic Studies certificate. Prior learning credit is also considered for programs which are not based out of education institutions (e.g., sexual assault nurse examiner courses). Fees apply for consideration of prior learning credits. A maximum of nine credits (three 3-credit courses) can be applied from an external institution or program.
