Admission requirements & costs

The admission requirements for this program are:

  • post-secondary diploma or degree
  • Students who do not meet these requirements may be admitted on a conditional basis. Entrance to the program is based on the consent of the Coordinator of the Studies in Aging Certificate Program.

Note: Professionals involved in developing or offering educational, recreational, social, volunteer or business programs for older adults are invited to apply. Exceptional admission for applicants who do not meet the above criteria may be considered on an individual basis. Entrance to the certificate program is based on consent of the Advanced Specialty Heath Studies department. Course-only registration by other College students is encouraged.

Fill in the department online distance information form. This form provides us with contact information and employment, professional and/or volunteer history. Click on Information Form

Step 3: Submit official transcripts from your post-secondary education program.

Other requirements — courses are offered online

Computer — A computer with the following specifications is required prior to beginning the program:

  • Minimum Windows 98; optimum Windows XP, Vista
  • An Internet provider service and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher or Mozilla Firefox browser

A free Mount Royal e-mail account will be provided to all students.

Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) coverage — Clinical practicum placement agencies and employers usually require Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) coverage on behalf of the student. Mount Royal can provide WCB coverage for students attending in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island. However, Mount Royal is not able to purchase WCB coverage for applicants from Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, the Yukon and internationally. It will be up to you to make the required arrangements with the employer/agency where the practicum is to take place. For further information please contact the Program Coordinator prior to application. Alternate practicum arrangements may be possible.
