MAANOMATAPOYAH: First Steps
Conference InformationThe Canadian Region (.caISES) of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) will be hosting the first national gathering of Indigenous STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) students and professionals this winter at Mount Royal University. Maanomatapoyah: First Steps is an inaugural celebration of the contributions of Indigenous peoples to STEM and is intended to assemble individuals for a weekend of networking, peer-to-peer support and mentorship. The event is being partially sponsored by the Aboriginal Science and Technology Education Program (ASTEP), part of MRU’s Iniskim Centre.
Travel scholarships will be available for students and made possible by our generous sponsors.
This event will bring AISES’ 40 years of Indigenous STEM learning and community-building experience to Canada. AISES provides networking, peer support and mentorship to Indigenous peoples in STEM at all levels of their educational and professional experience. Students are given opportunities to explore undergraduate and graduate opportunities, career pathways, engage with Indigenous STEM professionals, and network with scholarship granting organizations and corporations looking to hire. STEM professionals and corporations have the opportunity to meet bright, accomplished young Indigenous peoples looking to establish a career in STEM.

This includes attending the event, panels, and presentations; opportunities for employers looking to hire students; as well as sponsorship for events and student travel.

We are currently seeking presenters on various topics. To express your interest, please complete this form. We’re seeking individuals with knowledge of any of the following, or topics they feel would be of interest to young Indigenous STEM students and professionals.
