Education

As nonprofit organizations become increasingly vital to Canada's economy and social system, there is a greater need for individuals with high levels of knowledge, skills and experience to manage these enterprises.

Mount Royal College is committed to providing students with the resources that will enable them to lead the nonprofit sector now and well into the future.

Workshops and seminars

  • Burnett, Duckworth & Palmer have generously donated the funds to create a speaker series that is focused on philanthropy, innovation, and creativity titled "The BD&P Lecture Series"
  • Workshops for the nonprofit sector have been hosted by the Institute and include:
    • creating your media message
    • research risks and opportunities
  • In the past, Mount Royal's institute has made presentations to major conferences such as:
    • Vitalize Conference
    • Alberta Library Conference
    • Alberta Association of Fundraising Executives Conference
    • ARNOVA Conference
    • Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada Regional Conference
  • The Institute also has provided agency specific workshops to individual nonprofit groups including:
    • Calgary Chamber of voluntary organizations
    • Victim's Services
    • Hull Child and Family Services

Statistics show community-based research and problem solving efforts in the nonprofit sector are lacking in Canada.

The Institute for Nonprofit Studies (INS) helps define the issues faced by the industry and reinforces the importance of developing and sharing information with nonprofit groups across the country. By encouraging and undertaking applied research that assists philanthropic and nonprofit initiatives, it helps to increase the knowledge base in the sector.
