Integrative Health Institute

Welcome to Canada's first post-secondary institute dedicated to advancing complementary and alternative health education and practice. The Integrative Health Institute at Mount Royal was announced at Mount Royal on Feb. 7, 2005 by Brenda Hendrickson, Past-Dean, Faculty of Health and Community Studies.

In recent years the field of complementary health care has exploded in response to consumer interest and demand. National polls conducted in 2006 estimated that more than one-half (54%) of Canadians sought some type of complementary or alternative medicine in the last year. Use is more prevalent in Western Canada with 68% of Albertans and 64% of British Columbians having used complementary and alternative medicine and therapies. (Fraser Institute, 2007).

The Integrative Health Institute at Mount Royal (IHI at MR) provides a focal point for the continued development and integration of complementary and alternative health care (CAHC) into the fabric of the University and the community.

Body of Knowledge lecture series

Annually IHI offers the Body of Knowledge Lecture Series, an exceptional holistic health and wellness event. It supports the community to connect and interact with four world-renowned physicians passionate about integrative health philosophy and who lead a new vision for medicine.
