Promoting Environmental Management Awareness: A Transatlantic Perspective ("Greening" As A Critical Future Avenue In Environmental Management)

This project involves three Canadian and three European institutions which offer programs in the disciplines of environmental awareness or environmental management. The Environmental Management project will help shape the understanding of participating students of environmental issues in SMEs and the public sector. Students will have the opportunity to learn and experience the policies, attitudes and practices of organizations undertaking environmental management operations. Such an understanding will help sharpen the awareness of the students, not only in understanding business practices in their own countries, but also in learning and exploring practices in partnering countries. This combined approach will generally offer students the skills and competencies needed to manage environmental strategies and operations in private and public sectors.

The first student exchange will commence in the Fall of 2006. MRC students enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Industrial Ecology program will have the opportunity to study at Turku Polytechnic, Finland, the Universiteit van Amsterdam, Netherlands or Institut Supérieur d'Agriculture de Beauvais, France.

North American Mobility Program (NAMP): Canada, USA and Mexico

Strategic Market Expansion in the NAFTA Nations (SMENN Project)

This project involves two Canadian, two American and two Mexican institutions which offer programs in the disciplines of International Business or Supply Chain Management. The Strategic Market Expansion in the NAFTA Nations project (SMENN) provides a unique opportunity for students in the Bissett School of Business to participate in an international exchange and to learn about conducting business in, not only the Canadian business environment, but the Mexican and American environments as well. The students will develop expertise in new market assessment and strategic market expansion strategies within the NAFTA countries. Through the international business courses, the international business project, and an international business symposium, students will gain an enhanced understanding of the business practices in Mexico and the United States.

EXSTRA Expansion of Strategic Markets in Canada and the European Union

This project has been established to develop business graduates who have a cross-cultural understanding of the diverse issues facing the countries of Canada, Austria, France and the Netherlands. The agreement is composed of three institutions from Canada: Mount Royal University, Capilano College and Okanagan College and three institutions from Europe: F-H Wien University of Applied Sciences, Austria, Hogeschool Zeeland, The Netherlands and École De Management De Normandie, France. Selected students will be undergraduate business students. Student movement will begin in fall 2008. The implementation plan for the project uses a cohort model of exchange, with one institution hosting at a time. This model focuses the attention of all six institutions on the programs and curriculum being implemented by the host institution and on the experiences of the students and faculty involved in the exchange. For students at the hosting institution, they will have the opportunity to learn about three different areas represented by either the Canadian or European students. In each of the exchange semesters, the host school will incorporate projects from the business community or non-profi t agencies to explore strategic initiatives in the host institution’s region. An important facet of the exchange proposal is to engage students beyond the classroom in multiple business and cultural forums as well as facilitate their participation in student advocacy groups such as the international student organization: SIFE – Students in Free Enterprise.
