Business English Certificate of Completion Program

The Business English Program has been developed to address the growing demand and professional needs of Calgary’s second language employees. This comprehensive program focuses primarily on productive language skills (speaking and writing)  in order to help employees more effectively with native English speakers in the workplace.

Requirements

These courses are more suitable for high intermediate to advanced students or those functioning well in a native-speaking work environment.

Earning Your Certificate of Completion

To receive your certificate, you must complete all four course (160 hours) and have a minimum of 80% attendance in each course.  You must also complete and submit a minimum of 80% of all course assignments.

Courses offered may vary by term.  It is not necessary to be working towards the certificate to enrol in individual courses.

Courses

Manner of Speaking (40 hours)

Engage in a variety of theme-based speaking activities to improve communication. Develop your use of workplace language functions.  Learn to listen effectively through a number of office based listening themes and practise the related business functions.  Gain confidence through group discussions to reinforce new concepts of modern business language.

Business Writing:  Office Skills (40 hours)

Enhance your writing skills by using professional business-related phrases, formats and correct grammatical structures when composing common types of business correspondence such as emails, letters and memos.

Speechcraft (40 hours)

Refine your business English skills with a focus on specialized offer language.  Explore note taking techniques and listening skills through various workplace themes.  Enhance your speaking abilities with a focus on presentations and collaborative group discussions.

Note: This class is recommended for more advanced students.

Business Writing: Executive Skills (40 hours)

Gain confidence in creating and polishing more complex business documents including reports, instruction manuals and policies.

Note: This class is recommended for more advanced students

Negotiating, Marketing, and Sales (20 hours)

Enhance your ability to use appropriate language in this specialized area.

Conversation & Canadian Culture (all levels)
This 12-hour ESL conversation module can be delivered on site to groups of clients in any term. Refine pronunciation and practice speaking skills while learning more about Canada and Canadian culture. For more information, please call 403.440.5102.
