A second-year Computer Information Systems and Business student recently received first-place honours in a website design competition hosted by the Calgary chapter of the United Nations Association of Canada (UNAC).
Branford Wang went head-to-head with other students from SAIT, the University of Calgary and Mount Royal in the competition, and the website he designed is now utilized by the association.
"Winning a competition like this really means something to me. I'm proud of the work I did," said Wang. "Designing websites is part of my career dream. I'm really passionate about it, which is why I took part."
Brian Gancheff, former Director of Education Outreach for the UNAC, says selecting the winner all came down to the quality of work they did.
"Branford incorporated everything we asked for and he was very accommodating. He went above and beyond. When the scope of the project changed, he simply added to and modified things, it didn't bother him at all," said Gancheff. "He showed great attention to detail. The overall design was innovative, interesting and easy to follow."
The competition has also led to a part-time job for Wang, who is now employed by the UNAC to provide updates to the website.
"This is something I now have on my resume. Not only did I build the website, but now I'm employed part-time. Student life here is busy, but I encourage other students to try their best and jump at opportunities to showcase their talents."
