Early Childhood Strings is a group class program recommended for students of violin and cello ages 5 - 9. Weekly 45 minute group classes provide an opportunity for students to enjoy learning their instrument with others of the same age and playing ability.
Is the Early Childhood Strings program for your family?

Skills and opportunities gained from a group class:
Performance without fear: In contrast to only one recital per year that most children have in private lessons, the Early Childhood Strings program provides additional performance opportunities by providing weekly “mini-concerts,” as well as four recitals per year, in which students perform group pieces as well as solos. Recitals are often theme-based (students are allowed to wear costumes to the Halloween recital and only green treats are allowed at the St. Patrick’s Day recital). Students learn that performing can be fun and enjoyable.
A portion of each weekly group class is dedicated to helping students become comfortable performing in front of their peers. Students receive individual instruction from the teacher, but also learn as the teacher instructs other class members.
Ensemble playing: Playing an instrument in a group setting is a much different experience and skill than playing alone. Reading and rhythm skills are emphasized and ear training and music theory are introduced. Students have fun in duets, trios and more.
Technique is fun: Technique taught in the student’s private lessons is reinforced in the group class. Individual technique is improved through scales, exercises and games, with special emphasis on intonation, sound quality, bow hold, and posture.
Make music fun: Learning to play an instrument can be a solitary activity. Group classes provide an opportunity to have fun with friends, while learning the beauty of music. Music becomes a social activity where children are motivated by what they hear and see their friends doing. A friendly and fun atmosphere is created to help students enjoy practicing their instrument.
