Brass Faculty (Tuba/Euphonium)  

Michael Eastep was raised in Florida. After studying with William Cramer at Florida State University he completed his Bachelor of Music Degree at North Texas State University, where he studied with David Kuehn. He studied for a year with Arnold Jacobs of the Chicago Symphony before becoming Principal Tuba in the Winnipeg Symphony in 1975.

In 1982 Michael became Principal Tuba in the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and performed there until his retirement in 2016.  He began teaching at the University of Calgary in 1982 and at Mount Royal in 1984.  In 1998 he received a Master's degree from the University of Calgary.  Since his retirement from the CPO he has pursued interests in historical brass music in Alberta, in the use of acoustical outdoor performance spaces, and in the use of the tuba/euphonium ensemble as a social and educational tool.
