Holger was born and raised in Germany and started his musical training as a trumpet player in a youth brass band. In 1999, he graduated from the Orff Institute, at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Before moving to Calgary, Holger taught children as well as pre-professional music and dance students in Finland. He also gave continuing education workshops for teachers in Sweden, Finland and Russia.

Holger moved to Calgary in January 2004, is currently teaching at the Mount Royal Conservatory, the University of Calgary, and is collaborating with a number of institutions like the Calgary Arts Academy and EKO Dance Projects.
