Contralto, Betty Hicks has performed in concert, oratorio and opera in Canada, Germany and Austria.

In Calgary she has been soloist with the Calgary Philharmonic in the Brahms Alto Rhapsody, Prokoviev's Alexander Nevsky and Vivaldi's Gloria; with Alberta Ballet in the Mozart Requiem; with Calgary Opera as Mrs. Ott in Carlisle Floyd's Susannah, as Berta in Rossini's Barber of Seville, Third Lady in Mozart's Magic Flute and the Old Woman in Allen Bell's Turtle Wakes

Performing frequently with the Calgary Bach Festival Society in its Advent and Birthday concerts, she was soloist in the Anniversary performance of the B minor Mass in April 2009 as well the Bach 2000 Celebration in collaboration with Calgary Organ Society. In March, 2006 she performed Cantata 82, Ich habe genug. Concerts with the Calgary Festival Chorus include Bach's St. John Passion and B minor Mass, Handel’s Israel in Egypt and Macmillan's Mass to the Sea. Ms Hicks has also appeared as soloist with the Red Deer and Lethbridge and symphonies.

Before moving to Calgary, she was a member of the Graz Opera ensemble for three seasons.

Born in Winnipeg, Ms Hicks graduated from the University of Manitoba then studied four years in Germany on D.A.A.D. scholarship with Prof. Theo Lindenbaum, coached two years with Luigi Wood in Vancouver, earned a Diploma of Opera Performance from the University of Toronto studying with Bernard Diamant and participated in masterclasses with Martin Isepp at the Banff Centre. 

Betty Hicks is a voice teacher with the Conservatory at Mount Royal University.
