
Sharon Janes-Carne has been involved in music from an early age, singing in church choirs as a youth, formal music study on the classical guitar in her teens and earning a Bachelor of Music Degree from Queen’s University (Kingston, Ontario) and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, Minnesota) in guitar performance. She has been a faculty member and branch faculty member of the Mount Royal University Conservatory since 1988.
Sharon teaches students of all ages and is one of the first teachers in Calgary to specialize in teaching classical guitar to young children.
Sharon has performed throughout Alberta both as a soloist and as a chamber musician with Clarke and Carne, a flute and guitar duo. She has been invited to speak at the Guitar Foundation of America International Convention and Competition and at the Northwest Guitar Festival. She has adjudicated at music festivals throughout Alberta for the past fifteen years.
For the past fifteen years, Sharon has been expanding her interest and training in Sound Therapy and was asked to create a program as one of the interventions in a study on stress sponsored by the Integrative Health Institute at Mount Royal University.
Sharon has spoken on the benefits of sound therapy for the National Health, Work and Wellness conference, the Integrative Health Institute at Mount Royal University, the Canadian Blood Services, the Canadian Holistic Nurses Association, the Calgary Health Region, the Manitoba Health Region, the Mental Health Commission of Canada, the City of Calgary Wellness Fair, the Calgary Board of Education, and many others. Sharon’s workshops on sound therapy are attended by medical professionals, coaches, holistic practitioners, teachers and others
Sharon is the author of Listen from the Inside Out and has produced and recorded five CDs for stress reduction, relaxation, and healing.
