Kathryn Lapp, a certified Suzuki teacher, has taught violin (both Suzuki and Royal Conservatory methods) since 1971. In 1994, she began to teach as a Branch violin teacher with the MRU Conservatory. In 2005, Kathryn earned her ARCT diploma in Singing Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto under the tutelage of Blaine Chapmen, so she also offers singing instruction.
Mrs. Lapp played second violin in the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra for eighteen years until 2001. She now teaches a full schedule of violin and singing students, in addition to several violin group classes at Eastside Christian Academy.
Kathryn grew up in a musical family with twelve children, and studied violin with Sigmund Effron, Concertmaster of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in Cincinnati, Ohio, from 1959 to 1975. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio as a violin major with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (magna cum laude with honors) in 1975. She moved to Canada in September 1975 when she won the Principal Second Violin position in the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra (Ontario). Kathryn met her husband, Arthur, when he was the tubist and librarian with the Thunder Bay Symphony.
Married to Arthur since 1976, Kathryn is the mother of six grown-up children, and the very involved grandmother of four (soon to be six) adorable little ones. She sings and plays violin for her church’s worship team, just completed her Master’s degree in theology, and also enjoys studies in health, nutrition, and alternative therapies. She loves to read, take saunas, and go to movies.
