In 1984, Susan Light left Boston to join the 1st violin section of the Calgary Philharmonic. She had been an active freelance musician and teacher, a member of the Boston Ballet Orchestra, the Opera Company of Boston, Boston Pops and Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestras, various chamber music groups, and an instructor at the Longy School of Music and the All-Newton Music School.

Ms Light was fortunate to have had wonderful training: she received her early instruction from violinists who were members of the Minnesota Orchestra; attended high school at the Interlochen Arts Academy and spent summers at the National Music Camp and Aspen Festival; and studied with Eudice Shapiro at the University of Southern California, Berl Senofsky at the Peabody Conservatory, and Joseph Silverstein at Yale University. Summers were spent at the Academy of the West in Santa Barbara and as a Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Festival.

Susan Light has been teaching violin since coming to Calgary; she is a returning instructor at Mount Royal Conservatory.
