Karen Neary earned her Bachelor of Music at Memorial University of Newfoundland. As a graduate of Brandon University, Karen holds a Masters degree in Piano Performance, Accompaniment, and Literature. Karen has won numerous scholarships, awards, and competitions as a soloist. In 1990 she won the distinguished title of "Young Artist" and a 14-concert tour of western Canada through the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers.

In 1991 Karen settled in Calgary and joined the faculty at the Conservatory of Mount Royal College as a piano instructor, collaborative pianist for the Senior Academy and Credit programs, and chamber music coach. Along with her duties at the Conservatory, she maintained a demanding freelance accompanying schedule. With a performing and teaching career spanning over 20 years, Karen has collaborated with numerous prominent artists. She is sought after for her expertise as an accompanist in all areas, but with a particular affinity for working with string players. She has performed internationally and recorded for CBC radio and television.

Since 2001, Karen has continued her association with Mount Royal College as a Branch Instructor of piano and theory, and remains a busy accompanist and performer.
