Tanya Tagaq is an improvisational performer, avant-garde composer and experimental recording artist who won the 2014 Polaris Music Prize for her third album, Animism. The album disrupted the music world in Canada and beyond with its powerfully original vision. Her critically acclaimed follow-up, Retribution, is an even more musically aggressive, more aggressively political, more challenging, more spine-tingling and more powerful masterpiece.

Recently appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada, Tagaq challenges static ideas of genre and culture, and contends with themes of environmentalism, human rights and post-colonial issues in her work.

Saturday May 26, 2018 2:30pm & 7:30pm

MRU Nickle Theatre
Artio’s choral theatre artists present "Lacrimosa". In collaboration with choreographers Mark Ikeda and Alen Chaudry, aerial straps artist Patrick Chan, and set designer Terry Gunvordhal, Artio explores a difficult but all too common theme throughout human history. The sad reality that often the catalyst for change come as a result of the suffering and death of an individual.  Someone whose sacrifice compels and sparks the flames of large scale societal change.
