Application requirements

Audition material submission policy

  1. Applicants should make every effort to have the best possible recording made of their audition performance. DVD recordings are recommended and preferred, but VHS recordings or CD will be accepted (see Audition Requirements below). Repertoire performed should be included on the applicant’s performance resume/repertoire sheet and on the card inserted in the DVD/VHS/CD cover.
  2. Applicants are required to complete and sign the Audition Materials Submission Policy that is part of the Morningside Music Bridge Application Form, stating that each of the selections (pieces) has been performed without editing, and submit it with their audition material. The recording should be recent (within 6 months).
  3. Please note: Audition material will not be returned

Audition requirements must be met. Insufficient or incomplete audition repertoire may affect consideration for admission. Those submitting audition materials from outside Canada and/or closer to the deadline date are urged to use a courier or express post service. Include brokerage services (if applicable) to ensure efficient cross-border delivery. Audition materials become the property of the Morningside Music Bridge.

Audition requirements

Piano:

  • Complete Classical Sonata (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven or Schubert);
  • Two contrasting solos by different composers of the candidate’s choice from the standard Baroque, Romantic, 20th or 21st Century repertoire – solo works only; concerted works not permitted.

Strings (violin, viola, cello):

  • J.S. Bach:Two contrasting movements from an unaccompanied Suite, Sonata or Partita;
  • One solo of the candidate's choice from the standard repertoire (Romantic, Classical or 20th Century);
  • One movement of a concerto or other concerted work from the standard repertoire. Should be from a different stylistic period than category 2.

Application process & fees

The completed application form must be sent to the Program Coordinator and accompanied by:

  • a $35 non-refundable application fee;
  • a video recording (DVD/VHS) consisting of the audition requirements is recommended and preferred, but CDs will be accepted. No audio cassettes, mini-discs or 8 mm video cassettes please;
  • a letter of recommendation from the applicant's primary teacher;
  • the applicant's repertoire list from the previous year;
  • the applicant's list of public performances from the previous year.
