
AKIKO TOMINAGA is a native of Japan. After completing her Bachelor of Music at the Curtis Institute of Music, she moved to Canada to pursue an Artist Diploma at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto with John Perry. Currently, she is a Doctorate candidate at the Université de Montréal where she is under the guidance of Marc Durand.
As a soloist, Akiko has performed at various venues and concert halls in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Both solo and chamber performances have been broadcast on CBC/Radio-Canada. In 2006, she was invited to Poland for a concert tour, featuring works by Mozart and Bach. One of her recent projects include a recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations by the UniversitŽ of Montréal. In past years, her engagements have included a concert tour of Canada with members of the Israel Symphony, premiering works by Stewart Grant and Lior Navok, and a concert in Chicoutimi, Quebec, with the principal members of the Quebec Symphony. In 2003 she became the laureate of the OUM Competition, which was followed by a performance of Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto. Other solo experiences include performances with the Great Bridgeport Symphony, Young Artist Philharmonic and Reading Symphony in Pennsylvania. She has also been a soloist with the Interschool Orchestra of New York at the Lincoln Center.
She has been active in teaching as a part-time lecturer at the Université of Montréal as well as collaborating with many artists. This season's engagements include concerts in Japan and the Prairies Debut Tour with marimbist Anne-Julie Carron, as well as a return tour to Poland in the summer of 2007. She joined the faculty at the Mount Royal University Conservatory in Calgary in September 2007.
