Commissioned orchestral works
The Mount Royal Conservatory has from time to time commissioned unique orchestral works to premiere during Morningside Music Bridge. Morningside Music Bridge invites proposals from composers for inclusion in future Music Bridge events. Listen to our previous commissioned work:
2012 This year’s piece was not commissioned. Instead, we unveiled plans for a performance to celebrate 100 years since the birth of Benjamin Britten. The Morningside Music Bridge Orchestra performed two pieces.
Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten a short canon in A minor, written in 1977 by the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt for string orchestra and bell.
Benjamin Britten’s Simple Symphony - fourth movement - Frolicsome Finale. Britten's notes state that this "Simple Symphony" is entirely based on material which he wrote between the ages of nine and twelve. Britten dedicated this piece to Audrey Alston (Mrs Lincolne Sutton), his viola teacher during his childhood.
