Since its inception the Drumset Educational Camp has provided excellent instruction to high school, college and adult level students, ages 15 and up, aspiring to enhance their abilities on the drumset. This camp provides an intensive yet fun atmosphere in a masterclass setting, allowing participants to go at their own pace.

TYLER HORNBY, DIRECTOR: Tyler has been on numerous tours around North America, South America and Europe, where his drumming is a popular staple at many jazz festivals, clubs, and concerts. In 2009, Tyler was nominated for the Galaxie Rising Star Awa rd of Radio Canada & General Motors Grand Jazz Award at Festival International de Jazz de Montreal. His debut jazz album, Shadows of a Brighter Day, received rave reviews, and was selected for a National Jazz Compilation, Dig Your Roots. His follow-up album, A Road to Remember (2010), has made the top ten on radio stations across Canada, and received a Downbeat Magazine review: “...Tyler Hornby is a fluid player with a light touch and a penchant for writing wistful mid-tempo songs” (Nov 2010).
Tyler has performed with such artists as: Bob Mintzer, Ingrid Jensen, Wycliffe Gordon, Frank Mantooth, Alain Caron, Randy Brecker, Eric Marienthal, Tom Harrell, Jiggs Whigham, Irvin Mayfield, James Carter, Brad Goode, Chip Stephens, Hugh Fraser, Tommy Banks, PJ Perry, Shelly Berg, Ralph Bowen, Maciek Grzywacz, Maciej Sikala, Piotr Lemanczyk, Pat Bianchi, John Gunther, Ken Walker, Phil Dwyer, Mike Murley, David Braid, Joel Miller and Campbell Ryga. After completing his Masters in Jazz Performance/Pedagogy (2006) from the University of Colorado (Boulder), Tyler served as composer and musical director for several shows, including U of C Why Dance? Two the Power of One, and Mainstage Senses, Sex Over 40 and More Rocky Mountain Fairy Tales.
In addition to having a busy performing schedule, Tyler teaches for the Mount Royal University Jazz Program and has given workshops and clinics around the world, including Germany, Poland, Italy, Venezuela, and USA, and is the founder and director of the Drumset Educational Camp held at Mount Royal University each summer.
Spring 2011 Tyler released a new trio recording collaborating with some of Poland's finest Jazz musicians, Able to Fly, on Chronograph Records, and has recorded on over 30 albums.

Registration is limited and based on a first-come, first-served basis. No auditions are required, however, applicants must be 15+ and should have some experience.
