Allen Williams
General Technician, specializing in sound production

Allen Williams headshotHow did you get interested in sound? I was always the guy in the band that looked after gear. This led to a long term interest in audio production.

What has been the most memorable gig you've worked? I work at a number of folk festivals and the workshops are always technically challenging - and change once an hour.

What do you enjoy about MRU venues?  I love the changing faces of the events - from solo classical performances, dance, jazz, to high energy pop.

Sound technology is rapidly changing. What are some of the challenges you face day to day? Staying current requires constant upgrading and fortunately, as an institution of learning, MRU recognizes this need.

Owen Day
General Technician, Specializing in lighting

Owen Day headshotHow did you get interested in lights? I’ve been doing lighting and sound work since I was a kid. It wasn’t until I took the Technical Theatre program here at MRU that I really focused my attention to Lighting. It seemed to come very naturally to me.

What was the best light show you ever saw and what made it the best? I’ve seen four Cirque Du Soleil performances now; it’s hard to compete with anything they do. The attention to detail makes it all so seamless.

What has been the most memorable moment of your lighting career? It’s too hard to pick just one moment, I love my job and I get enjoyment out of every show I work on here. There’s a certain adrenaline rush you get when the show is starting in 5 minutes and there is a spilled coffee, a blown-out light bulb and one of the dancers is missing, you can’t substitute it!

Why choose MRU? The Technology here at MRU is continuously growing and upgrading. We always have new tricks to keep shows fresh and audiences entertained.
