Servus Credit campus branch to close its doors
The Servus Credit Union (which merged with the Apex Credit Union last year) branch at Mount Royal University will close its doors on April 30, 2010.

Limited opportunities for future growth and a relatively high cost of operating at the campus branch figured in Servus’ decision to close the Mount Royal branch.

Servus clients can still receive service at any of its locations around the city.

Mike Dickinson, director of Corporate Communications at Servus says Mount Royal credit union members can receive more comprehensive services from other Servus branches around the city.

“We are directing members to other Servus locations in Calgary with better hours, more staff and more services for members,” says Dickinson.

“Since the merger last year, former Apex members can also take advantage of our online and telephone banking systems, and the extended hours at our contact centre.”

Mount Royal client Servus accounts safe

Dickinson points out that Mount Royal employees, who have Servus accounts, will actually receive more in-depth service from the city branches.

“To be really clear, member accounts will remain open. You don’t have to do anything in terms of changing your cheques or debit cards. Your account numbers will remain the same.”

Mount Royal branch member accounts will be transferred to the Bowness Road and TransCanada Centre Servus Credit Union locations where members will have access to a complete line of services, including deposits, loans, mortgages, investments, insurance, MasterCard credit cards and debit cards.

The branch closure does not mean layoffs for Mount Royal staff, or Servus employees for that matter.

“All of the Servus employees at the Mount Royal branch have been offered jobs at other Servus locations, so there will be no layoffs. This will not affect Mount Royal employees at all,” says Dickinson.

Servus will mail a more in-depth letter to Mount Royal credit union members in the coming weeks providing more information on the branch closure.

For account information, call toll-free 1-87servuscu (1.877.378.8728) or visit one of the Servus branches.

New office space opens up

The closure of the Servus branch at Mount Royal will free up office space in E156.

But as Mike Reed, director of Business & Retail Services at Mount Royal points out, there is already a long, prioritized list of institutional departments wanting to make use of available space at the University.

“As office space is at a premium at Mount Royal there is quite a lot of interest in utilizing the area,” says Reed. “The former Servus offices will be subject to the University’s regular process for allocating space.”
