Wellness survey results revealed
The EnCana Wellness Centre has released the results of its Employee Wellness Survey which was conducted last year. It is only the second time that such a survey has been conducted. The first survey was taken in 2007.
“We were excited about the results," says Shermin Murji, Mount Royal’s health education coordinator. "We had about a 40% response rate, which is incredible for an online survey. What that says to us is that employees care about their health and wellness and they want to share that information with us," says

“We use the data to shape our programs and services on campus so that data is crucial to improving what we will offer in the future as well as what we should continue to offer."
During a presentation to staff recently, Murji touched on the highlights of the survey results, including a comparison between the 2007 and 2009 results, where applicable.
“Some of the results were particularly interesting, such as the response to our new bullying component,” noted Murji.
“We asked about risks or threats that were experienced or witnessed in the workplace and the response confirmed that bullying is in fact happening on campus.
“That concerns us and we have a (Diversity and Human Rights Adviser — Jamie Fillon) who is an expert in this field and can help educate people on how to deal with that. That will become a priority for us moving forward.”
Some of the more interesting findings in the 2009 survey include:
- The average age of employees has declined
- Exercise is our employee’s number one way to relieve stress
- Employees rated themselves lower in physical health this time around
- 8.1% of respondents currently use tobacco
