With increasing development in the neighbourhood, the number of vehicles taking a shortcut through the Mount Royal campus, frequently at higher speeds, continues to rise. There have been many near misses involving pedestrians and vehicles. Other campuses have experienced the same problem and by closing inner roads were able to improve safety.
We realize the road closures may be an inconvenience for some visitors to our campus, but it is a necessary step to ensure the safety of pedestrians. To minimize the inconvenience, parking lots will remain accessible, bus routes will not change and new signage will help redirect traffic.
Closure gates will be used as barriers. In an emergency, these gates can be lifted to allow access to emergency vehicles. The gates may also be lifted in special circumstances, such as when students are moving into Residence.
For more information go to mru.ca/ringroad.
Thank you for your cooperation as we implement this change on our campus.
