Your Alumni Council

The Alumni Council is a group of committed alumni who are passionate about Mount Royal University and its alumni community. The Council represents the 100,000+ members of the MRU Alumni Association; advises the University on alumni engagement strategies; and acts as alumni ambassadors in the wider community.

Danielle Gibbie

Chair, Alumni Council
Bachelor of Business Administration — General Management (2015)

Currently, Danielle works as the Director of Institutional Partnerships at Operation Eyesight Universal, which is an international NGO focused on eliminating blindness in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. She has held multiple board positions and is currently the Chair of the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation.

 

Mercedes Brown
Bachelor of Health Science — Nursing (1993)

Mercedes Brown migrated to Canada as an international student from Jamaica where she attended Mount Royal University. She is a Masters prepared Registered Nurse with a specialty in ostomy and wound care, working at Rockyview General Hospital. 

 

Tia Hagen
Bachelor of Communications (2014)

Tia is the Senior Communication Manager at ATB Financial. Over the last four years, Tia mentored MRU public relations students, and is one of the original members of the Alumni Council Working Group.  

 

Jacquie Hertlein
Diploma in Criminology (1996)

From 1999 to 2016, Jacquie was part of the Calgary Police Service (CPS). She is now the Executive Director of the Calgary Women’s Soccer Association where she continues to break barriers and create pathways for our future female leaders. Jacquie Hertlein is also the 2019 recipient of MRU’s Lifetime Distinguished Achievement Award.

 

Geoff Hughes
Diploma in Business Administration (2005)

Geoff Hughes is the President and founder of Park Digital, a digital and online advertising agency. He is also quite involved in the Rotary Club of Calgary Connect, which just launched in the last month.

 

Travis McIntosh
Bachelor of Applied Policy Studies (2010)

Both Travis and his wife are full-time professionals who volunteer with multiple organizations in Calgary. He ran a successful candidacy to serve as the SAMRU President during his time at Mount Royal. 

 

Onyekachi Nwoke
Bachelor of Arts — Sociology (2014)

Onyekachi is an International Development professional with over six years employment and eight years of volunteer coordination experience. He has lived and worked in four countries, including Nigeria, England, the United States and Canada.
