New fall 2020 students are being contacted directly by email to sign up for New Student Registration by March 30.

New Student Registration will continue remotely this year in lieu of the on-campus event previously scheduled for April 4. The online event on April 2 and 3 will offer formally presented advising sessions using Google Meet for each program, followed by drop-in registration support using the same platform.

The event, which usually sees about 900 students and several hundred parents attend, far surpassed the directives of Alberta Health Services regarding events over 50 guests. At a critical point during the year, when new fall students are selecting their courses, it remains important to ensure they have the resources needed to plan their studies and support in using registration tools.

“This event has proven to show long-term benefits for student success,” says Shea Ellingham, manager, academic advising services. “The continuity of new student support doesn’t just help with registration — it gives our new students confidence in Mount Royal as we deal with COVID-19.

“While we can’t welcome students and their parents to campus, we are working to provide the same spirit of welcome and belonging among our new students,” Ellingham says.

In addition to the online event, more comprehensive online resources have been added and advisors are available for appointments by phone or Google Meet.

“While many of us are learning new skills to manage the pressing needs of our current students, we continue to look forward to the fall semester,” Ellingham says.

New fall 2020 students are being contacted directly by email to sign up for New Student Registration by March 30. New students unable to attend a session and current students can make an advising appointment by contacting their advisor through email.
