INDIGENOUS PROSPERITY | Latasha Calf Robe | Wed. Oct 20, 11:00AM 

Latasha Calf Robe is the Program Lead in the MRU Department of Research, Scholarship and Community Engagement, Trico Changemakers Studio. Latasha is a graduate of the Bissett School of Business, recipient of the Calgary Aboriginal Youth Achievement Award, 4 time recipient of the national Indspire award, and champion of the University's Indigenous Strategic Plan.

VEGANISM AND SUSTAINABILITY | Dion Simon | Wed. Oct 20, 11:30AM

Dion Simon is the Medicine Trail Coordinator in the Iniskim Center. Dion works with MRU faculty and students across the school to build Indigenous education programs that embrace Indigenous ways of knowing.

CLIMATE CHANGE: LET'S TALK SCIENCE | Andria Dawson | Wed. Oct 20, 1:00PM 

Andria Dawson is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at MRU in the Department of General Education. Andria teaches traditional mathematics courses, math and science literacy, and the science of climate change and is the recipient of the 2021 Emerging Scholar Award.

Jerry Gaois the Founder of LEAF Environmental Products Inc. located in Calgary, AB. LEAF's mission is to provide effective and cost efficient solutions to facilitate waste reduction through environmentally friendly products.

FULL CIRCLE ORGANIC RECYCLING | Mike Prevost | Thurs. Oct 21, 11:30AM

Mike Prevost is the Southern Alberta Operations Manager for GFL Environmental. GFL is the only major diversified environmental services company in North America offering services in solid waste management, liquid waste manage, and infrastructure development.

CLIMATE CHANGE JOURNALISM | Sean Holman | Thurs. Oct 21, 1:00PM

Sean Holman is a Professor in Environmental and Climate Journalism at the University of Victoria. Previously, an Associate Professor at MRU, Sean brings his research expertise in freedom of information and climate journalism. He is co-leading the first-ever survey of journalists and scientists regarding climate change media coverage, and is launching a “climate disaster survivor” memory vault with at least nine other journalism programs in Canada.

LOCAL ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE | Calgary Climate Hub | Thurs. Oct 21, 1:30PM

Calgary Climate Hub is a volunteer-led, non-profit organization that unites a diverse group of Calgarians committed to working together to support meaningful local action on climate change. They represent a variety of communities, industries, cultures and causes.

Information Fair

October 20-21 10:00AM - 2:00PM | Main Street

Stop by Main Street Wednesday, October 20 or Thursday, October 21 between 10am - 2pm to learn about some of Mount Royal's sustainable operations.

Local and MRU internal representatives will be setting up informational displays on environmental sustainability on Main Street.

Note: To reduce congestion on Main Street, representatives will not be sitting at the booths as usual.  We encouraging the campus community to attend the speaker series if they would like to engage more or participate in discussion.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, the Sustainable MRU Committee is assessing the sustainability literacy and culture (values, behaviors, beliefs, and awareness) of the MRU community.

Climate Change Book Display - Curated by the MRU Library

October 15 - October 24 | Riddell Library and Learning Centre

There will be a sustainability themed book display curated on the second floor of the Riddell Library and Learning Centre between October 15 - 24 to bring awareness to Global Climate Change Week (Oct 18 - 24).  See the full resource list here!
