Hotspot parking permit purchasing instructions
A limited number of parking permits will be available January 1, 2023 and can be purchased through the HotSpot app. Permits may be purchased in-person at the Campus Store beginning January 3, 2023, depending on availability.
The Employee Flex Permit has moved under Flex Permit - Lot 1,4,6A & 8 as location selection on the HotSpot app and desktop website.
Please ensure to use your MRU email address to create your HotSpot account or change to your MRU email address in your exisiting account before purchasing.
How to create a HotSpot account - Mobile App
- Download the HotSpot app from Apple or Google App store
- Open the HotSpot app on the cellular phone
- Scroll to the bottom and press "Not a Member? Get Started"
- Select your Country
- Select your province
- Select your city
- Check off "Parking" selection box
- Enter your email address and press Next (must be MRU email address)
- Choose a Password and press Next
- Read through the Terms of Services, then check to accept the disclaimer, then press "Submit"
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Go Pay Per Use"
- press "Continue as Pay Per Use"
- Prress "YES" on the are you sure pop up screen
- Press "Oay" on the Sucess pop up screen
- You HotSpot account now created. Please continue by following the below steps on "How to Purchase a Permit"

- Open web broswer and go to https://htsp.ca
- Press "Login" on the top right corner
- Scroll to the bottom and press "New Parker? Click Here"
- Select your city
- Enter your email address and press Next (must be MRU email address)
- Choose a Password and press Finish
- You HotSpot account now created. Please continue by following the below steps on "How to Purchase a Permit"

- Login to your htsp.ca account
- Select “Permits”, then “Purchase a permit”
- Select Calgary, your preferred lot and vehicle plate
- Fall and annual permits will only display when “Today” is selected
- Select your permit and proceed to purchase

- Scroll through the list and select your preferred location.
- Proceed to payment

** Evening Hours are Monday to Friday from 4pm to 9am the following day, all day Saturday and Sunday. Evening/Weekend permits are available to employees, students, and the general public (MRU Recreation users, Conservatory patrons, etc.)
*** Carpool permits are available at the Parking Office only. Lot 6 Carpool stalls are located in Lot 6 only. East Gate Parkade Carpool stalls are marked and located in level P1 and P2 only. All members of the carpool must be present to purchase the permit. Please review the carpool program guidelines to ensure your eligibility.

Accessible permits
Purchase of an accessible permit requires valid photo ID and Alberta Registration Certificate for your Disabled Placard. For a short term accessible permit, please bring valid photo ID and a doctor's note indicating the reason and the length of time for which the permit is required.
Applicable permits placard (Accessible permits or provincial placard) must be displayed from the rear view mirror and visible from the outside of the vehicle.
Motorcycle Permits
Motorcycle parking is available in-person only for $40 per month. They are located at the entrance of Gated Lot 3 and Permit Lot 8. These are designated areas for motorcycle. Please refer to lot signs for exact location or contact the parking office for details.
Flex passes
If you possess any previous year's flex passes, you may visit our service counter in the Cougar Campus Store to obtain a refund. Digital Flex Day Permits are now available to MRU Employees for $8.75/day through HotSpot (Permit Lots Only).
Please select "Flex Permit - Lot 1,4,6A & 8" as your location, then select "Employee Flex Day Permit". If you do not see this option, please ensure your account is set to your MRU email address before retrying or contact the Parking Office at parking@mtroyal.ca.
Display of permits
Regular permits are sold digitally, display of window placard will no longer be required.
Refunds and exchanges
For refunds, please contact the parking office via phone 403.440.6111 or email at parking@mtroyal.ca.
Refunds are calculated based on the requested date on a bi-monthly proration rate (on the 15th and the last day of the month). Refunds will not be issued retrospectively. Please note refunds will not be given once the permits reach the last month of validity. For further information, please contact the Parking Office.
