A.
PROCEDURES
1.
COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT
1.1
In the event a Provost & Vice-
President, Academic (“Provost”) expresses a written
intent to stand for reappointment, the President is responsible for conducting a
comprehensive assessment of the
Provost’s overall performance and leadership
during their term of office.
1.2
The comprehensive assessment is based on the in
cumbent’s leadership of
academic affairs, results of annual performance reviews, and written submissions
which are invited by the President from members of the University community.
1.3
The President shall establish a Provost and Vice-President, Academic
Reappointment Committee (“Reappointment Committee”) whose responsibility is to
advise the President on the comprehensive assessment and recommend an
outcome based on that process.
1.4
The President may seek external consultation to assist in conducting the
comprehensive assessment.
1.5
The Reappointment Committee will advise the President on a recommendation
regarding the
Provost’s reappointment.
1.6
All deliberations of the Committee shall be confidential.
1.7
The Reappointment Committee shall be dissolved upon its final decision regarding
the
Provost’s request for reappointment.
2.
REAPPOINTMENT
2.1
The President will consider the recommendation of the Reappointment Committee
and make a final decision on the P
rovost’s request for reappointment.

2.2
In the event that the President proceeds with reappointment of the Provost, the
President shall negotiate and conclude a contract with the Provost.
2.3
The President shall be the official spokesperson for all matters relating to the
reappointment process and will announce the reappointment of the Provost.
2.4
In the event that the Provost is unsuccessful in their request for reappointment, or if
the Provost chooses to no longer stand for reappointment, the President will initiate
a search for a new Provost, in accordance with the Vice-President Search and
Appointment Policy.
3.
REAPPOINTMENT COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP
3.1
The Reappointment Committee will be comprised of the following members:
i.
President, who shall serve as Chair;
ii.
1 Vice-President, selected by the Vice-Presidents;
iii.
2 Deans/Vice-Provosts/Associate Vice-Presidents,
selected by the Provost’s
Council;
iv.
4 faculty members (3 tenured; 1 contract), nominated by and elected by the
faculty members;
v.
1 faculty member appointed by the Mount Royal Faculty Association;
vi.
1 director/manager/exempt staff, nominated by management/exempt staff in
the Academic Affairs Division
vii. 1 staff member in the Academic Affairs Division, appointed by the Mount Royal
Staff Association;
viii.
1 student, appointed by the Students’ Association of Mount Royal University
3.2
The President reserves the right to appoint up to three additional members-at-large if
it is deemed appropriate to mitigate under-representation from the equity-deserving
groups and/or to provide better representation of the portfolio. These individuals
may be members of any part of the University community, except for members of the
Executive Leadership Team.
