First Aid & CPR

Learn how to save a life. Be prepared in an emergency situation and increase your employability. All of these can be achieved by taking a Red Cross First Aid and CPR course with our qualified instructors.

We offer the following courses in certification and recertification options: CPR C
CPR courses provide the skills needed to recognize and respond to cardiovascular emergencies and choking for adults, children and babies. All include training to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). Courses offer training suitable for both the workplace or general interest and includes the latest CPR guidelines.
We offer the following courses in certification and recertification options: Emergency First Aid with CPR C & Standard First Aid with CPR C (If you need BLS with this course instead, please let the instructor know). We also offer Standard Child Care with CPR B. 
These comprehensive courses offer first aid and CPR skills for those who need training due to work (check with your employer on the level required) requirements or those who want more knowledge to respond to potential home emergencies.
NOTE: No recertification option for Emergency First Aid.
We offer private First Aid and CPR courses right here on campus. Private courses are a great team building option for groups of six or more including: student clubs and groups, faculty members, campus departments and the general public. We make it easy and can fit your schedule, teach in your work space and tailor the course to your group!

Aquatic CertificationsBecome a lifeguard and instructor.

We offer the following courses in certification and recertification: Water Safety Instructor (WSI) & Water Safety Instructor Recertification (WSIR)


The WSI course prepares candidates to instruct Red Cross Swim Programs. This course is comprised of the skills evaluation and online modules. This session will ensure candidates have the necessary water safety knowledge, strokes and skills equivalent to the Red Cross Swim Kids 10 performance criteria as well as Instructor Emergency Response (IER) skills. Additionally you will receive information on how to access the online modules that focus on the theory of instruction through videos, virtual games, online activities, workbook exercises and a knowledge evaluation at the end of each module. You must complete all four steps of the course.

Prerequisite(s): 15+ years and the ability to perform Swim Kids Level 10 strokes and skills. One of the following: Red Cross Assistant Lifeguard, Emergency First Aid or Bronze Cross certification. Does not need to be current.

This course is the prerequisite for Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross. Course content includes CPR Level A and an introduction to the role of a lifesaver.

Prerequisite(s): Bronze Star or 13+ years

Bronze Cross (BC) and Standard First Aid (SFA) Lifesaving Society certifications are prerequisites for the National Lifeguard. You can register for the BC only or register for the combined course at a special price.

BC course includes an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities, CPR Level C and lifesaving skills. It is the third level of the Bronze Medal family.

SFA course
includes head and spinal injuries, environmental emergencies, sudden medical illness, soft tissue injuries and poisons. You may be certified in either SFA or BC or both.

Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of Bronze Medallion (does not need to be current). Proof of award is required. 

We offer the following course in certification and recertification options: National Lifeguard (NL) & National Lifeguard Recertification (NLR)

Lifesaving Society NL certification is Canada's professional lifeguard standard. NL training develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgement and a mature and responsible attitude towards the lifeguard's role. NL training emphasizes prevention and effective rescue response in emergencies including first aid treatment. Candidates develop teamwork, leadership and communication skills. Fitness requirements include a timed object recovery, 50m sprint challenge, 50m rescue drill and 400m endurance challenge.

Prerequisite(s): 16+ years, a Bronze Cross award (does not need to be current) and a current Standard First Aid certification. Proof of age, award and certification is required.
ATTENTION: CPR C (received in the Bronze Cross) is NOT equivalent to the Standard First Aid.

Recertifying? Be sure to present your current certification card to the instructor at the course. All First Aid and CPR certifications have a three year expiry date, although your employer may require you to recertify every year.
