As parents of children who developed eating disorders, we have experienced firsthand the terrifying complexity and seriousness of these mental illnesses, plus the toll of having to seek residential treatment for them elsewhere. We formed Calgary Silver Linings Foundation (Silver Linings) to remedy certain significant gaps in accessibility and care of eating disorders in Alberta. Specifically, through a “phased approach” we are working to establish southern Alberta’s first world-class residential eating disorder treatment centre. The centre’s primary clients will be medically stable adolescents and young adults, aged 12 to 25. Silver Linings is the only charity in Alberta focused on this life-saving mission.
