Biyi Adeniran PMP, B.Eng, CISA, CISM, CGEITCE Bio - PM - Adeniran

Teaches in the Project Management Extension Certificate, PMP Exam Prep

Biyi Adeniran has been involved in project management for over 16 years with experience spanning engineering, IT and finance projects across oil and gas, health services and aviation industries. He enjoys taking on challenging roles and assisting organizations optimize their business processes.

Biyi has been involved in curriculum development for MRU's Applied Project Management Extension Certificate, and currently teaches the Project Management Professional (PMP)® Exam Prep and Training course and the Project Management Extension Certificate courses.  He has a Bachelor of Engineering (with Honours) in Electrical Engineering.

Saad Ahmed is Program Manager at the City of Calgary and brings over 20 years’ experience in municipal government. Saad holds a Bachelor of Computer Science majoring in Information Systems and has been a Project Management Professional (PMP) and active member of the Project Management Institute since 2006. Over the past 10 years, Saad has been sharing his knowledge and expertise by conducting workshops, webinars and by presenting as a guest speaker in conferences across the globe in Canada, the United States and Turkey.

Saad is the founder and principal of Advanced Project Management Excellence Services Inc. that provides project management and leadership training services to Mount Royal University, S.A.I.T (School of Construction) and Red Deer College. Saad has received training in many project management principles and he actively trains, mentors, and supports delivery project managers and business analysts in using their use of project management tools and methodologies. Saad strongly promotes a culture of disciplined project management and leadership to delivery groups, industries and educational institutes.

Debasis Bhaumik specializes in driving transformation, implementing change and running operations 'like a machine.' He is a result oriented leader who enjoys driving transformation, coaching talent and running operations. He has a proven ability to identify and solve complex business problems to achieve desired outcome through innovative solutions and people engagement.

Debasis has more than 20+ years of experience in operational management, solution delivery, professional teaching and business development for various industries. He specializes in driving transformation, implementing change and running operations 'like a machine.' He is a result oriented leader who enjoys driving transformation, coaching talent and running operations. Debasis has a proven ability to identify and solve complex business problems to achieve desired outcome through innovative solutions and people engagement.

He held senior roles with global corporations in various geographies including the USA, Canada and Asia Pacific and have a unique combination of experience in consulting and industry. He has a MBA with specialization in Finance and a Master of Science in Physics. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). He is also certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) and Organization Change Management (Prosci). Debasis loves teaching. He has post-graduate and professional-level teaching experience in software engineering, financial management, marketing, BPR, ERP and technical subjects such as project management, OCM and CMM. He has been a visiting faculty member with several universities and institutes.


Valerie Carson PMP, BSc

Valerie Carson started her career in information technology in Winnipeg. Her move to Calgary in 1994 marked the beginning of her work in project management. She has her bachelor's degree in computer science and been providing project management consulting services for twenty years, most recently with KPMG, where she is a Senior Manager in the IT Advisory Practice. Valerie achieved her PMP® designation in 2004 and credits that process with a renewed interest in her chosen profession and a dedication to continuous improvement in the tools and techniques she uses to practise it. It launched her association with Mount Royal University as an instructor in the Project Management Professional PMP® Certification Exam Preparation Workshop.

Valerie has a particular interest in project management office models and processes and a strong belief in effective risk management as a cornerstone of successful project delivery.

Sara Dasko is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Project Management Consultant, Trainer and Instructor, and Free Mind Coach. She holds a BA in General Studies with a Double Minor in Philosophy and Behavioral Studies. Additionally, she has certificates in Teamwork and Team building, Leadership and Influence, Coaching and Mentoring, Personal Success, as well as a Toast Masters' Advisor certificate, and a linguistic certification (TIU) from Wycliffe.
Sara is an entrepreneur and has run her own company since 2010. In 2021, she took on the role of Chairperson for the MRU Project Management Advisory Committee. She is a remarkable woman with a wide range of experience and talent advocating that education equals freedom. She has been instructing since 2004 and managing projects since 2011. Her project management experience started in education, events, and non-profit work. Since the early years, she has gained project management experience in IT, government, energy, construction, and more. Using her love for writing, she was the founder and editor of two newspapers: CCHS and Ambrose University. She has written several books and manuals as well as developed many training programs over the years. Sara has spoken at various workshops and conferences, most notably UNBOUND. Her hobbies include reading, gardening, crafting, languages, music, and researching NZE homes.

Candice Davis is described as high-energy, entrepreneurial spirited and passionate about project management, change management and strategy development. Candice has held various project management, strategy, and change management leadership roles in the legal, oil and gas and construction industries. She has created and lead several project management offices, led bid pursuit teams on hundreds of millions of dollar construction projects and developed and led high-performing program and project teams.Candice has instructed and developed curriculum at several post secondary institutions. She has taught project management, change management, business process improvement and strategy for over 15 years.

Candice led the curriculum development of the Applied Project Management and Project Management in Construction certificates at MRU as well as chaired a Project Management Advisory Board. She sat on an executive Advisory Board at two different post secondary institutions.Candice completed her Bachelor of Management degree at the University of Lethbridge and is a graduate from Stanford University in Strategic Decision Analysis and Risk Management. She has a Project Management Professional designation, Change Management certification as well as a PowerMBA. She is a graduate from the Canadian Board Diversity "Get on Board' Program. She is a Project Management Institute Fellow. Candice has received a Distinguished Teaching Award from Mount Royal University and was an Award Finalist, Distinguished Individual Excellence in Project Management with the Project Management Institute Southern Alberta Chapter. Blanka EvansonBlanka Evanson BPE, PMP

Blanka Evanson has consistently been commended for her strong leadership and communication skills as a project and program manager. She is known for her willingness to take on and successfully deliver complex projects involving significant technical risks and cross-cultural challenges. A PMP®-certified Project Manager since 2005, Blanka's initiation to the field of project management came from ten years leading manufacturing operations and outsource projects and programs spanning North America, Europe, and Asia for a global telecommunications company. There, she also formalized project management processes for a divisional Project Management Office, alongside of establishing critical cross-cultural relationships throughout the organization's global supply chain. Blanka’s body of project work now spans electronics manufacturing, renewables, government, non-profit, public relations, and education.

Blanka has also been teaching and providing curriculum development services to the Mount Royal University’s Project Management program since 2006. Additionally, Blanka has delivered PMP exam prep courses, and has been a conference presenter for PMI-SAC. Having designed and developed the current MRU Project Management program, Blanka teaches most courses in the MRU Project Management Program including grading of student Final Assessment Papers. Blanka has also provided design and delivery of tailored courses for MRU’s corporate clients.

Randy is a passionate, dedicated, Manufacturing & Industrial Project/Operations Manager & Instructor with over 40 years of accumulated experience in the Rail and Energy sectors working predominantly in Canada as well as internationally for Class 1 railroads. He served on the board of the PMI Southern Alberta Chapter for 8 years and has been a chapter member for 16 years.
Randy has successfully completed post secondary education certificate programs in Project, Business, and Environmental Management. He has also completed a Instructional Skills Workshop and Adult Educator Seminar program. Gary Gillan PMP, BSc (Hons), MPhil

Gary Gillan has been involved in project management for over 19 years and currently works as an independent consulting project manager within the construction industry. He has been an instructor at MRU since 2008.Gary finished his bachelor's degree in Construction Management with first-class honours, winning top student and best dissertation awards from Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland. Gary's master's degree, also in Construction Management, formed part of an important health and safety study into safe working at height on behalf of the Health and Safety Executive in the UK (the equivalent of OH&S), which is published on HSE's website. It was during his master's degree that Gary discovered his passion for education.

Gary has been involved in curriculum development for MRU's Applied Project Management Extension Certificate, the Project Management Professional (PMP)® Exam Prep and Training Course and the Project Management in Construction Extension Certificate. He also teaches for MRU's Corporate Training department.Gary also works with the Project Management Institute Southern Alberta Chapter (PMI®-SAC), having written their PMP®/CAPM® Exam Preparation Workshop Course, and was elected as Vice President for Professional Development; a role which he will serve from January 2014 - December 2015.Apart from spending time with his son, Leo, Gary's main interest is supporting football (soccer); his favourite team being Glasgow Rangers Football Club. He is currently President of the Rangers Supporters Club of Calgary (RSCC), and President of the North American Rangers Supporters Association (NARSA).

Rob Johnson has been working as a project manager for 13 years, starting at Critical Mass delivering world-class websites and business value for Mercedes-Benz, Hyatt and Dell. He has continued working as a project management consultant for clients focusing on pushing teams to deliver results. Rob considers the re-launch of the Calgary Flames' new website as one of his most notable achievements. The template design and key features were subsequently used by the NHL for all 30 teams.

Rob received his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary in 1999 and earned his PMP® designation in 2003. He teaches project management at Mount Royal University where he has developed his presentation and facilitation skills. When Rob is not working or teaching, he enjoys an active lifestyle outside, skiing in the winter and enjoying a nice patio in the summer.

Matt Luik is a Professional Engineer, Project Management Professional and Certified Scrum Master who has worked on a variety of large infrastructure projects in Canada and Australia. Matt enjoys sharing his passion for project management with others, and has been instructing at Mount Royal University since 2012.

Emil Tarka is the founder and owner of Tarka Consulting Inc., a CTP (Certified Training Provider) with the PMTA (Project Management Training Alliance). He has over 15 years of industry experience as a practicing project manager and instructor. In his role as an instructor and consultant, Emil has trained thousands of industry professionals and aspiring project managers.

Emil is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP)® and has developed, adapted, and applied project management techniques within a wide variety of industries including oil and gas, education, and health care.

 

 


Sarah vanGilst PMPCE Bio - Project Management - vanGilst

Teaches in the Project Management Extension Certificate, Project Management in Construction Extension Certificate

Sarah vanGilst moved back to Calgary after working in Holland, England and Scotland in the IT and transportation industries. She has been working in the construction industry since 2005. Her construction experience began on civil projects and most recently she has worked in general contracting. Some of her project highlights are LDS Temple (Rocky Ridge), The River (Mission) and Southbank (Inglewood).

Sarah graduated from the Mount Royal Project Management in Construction program and received her PMP designation in 2013. In her free time, Sarah serves as Chair of the Springbank Airshow and fosters dogs through AARCS.

 


CE Bio - Project Management - YagelniskiKelly Yagelniski PMP, BBA

Teaches in the Project Management Extension Certificate

Kelly Yagelniski graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Regina in 1991 and began his career at SaskTel as a Project Manager in Financial Systems. After spending 10 years at SaskTel and SaskTel International, Kelly moved to Calgary in 2001. Kelly has been managing projects and programs for the last 24 years and has worked in a number of industries including telecommunications, information technology, software development, supply chain management and, most recently, electric power systems. Kelly's work experience has included working on International infrastructure projects, through which he had the privilege of living and working in Asia and Africa.

Kelly is currently working at the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO). As a Director in Transmission, Kelly is responsible for the current build of the two High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) power transmission facilities and manages the Transmission Program Management Office (PMO). Kelly has been a member of PMI since 2004 and has been an instructor at Mount Royal University since 2005. Kelly recently became certified in Prosci's Change Management Program.
