This course will act as the introduction for students to the pressures and expectations of a classroom environment
with the goal of preparing them for the role of an Education Assistant.

The Education Professional II course builds on the theory and practice introduced in The Education Professional
foundation course. The curriculum will further introduce students to the expectations present in the Education
Assistant code of professional conduct.

Prerequisite: XEDU 10001 The Education Professional
This introductory course in human development focuses on the study of physical, emotional, cognitive, and social
characteristics from infancy through adolescence to adulthood – in particular, childhood and adolescence. The
psychology of the developing child is examined from a variety of perspectives. Emphasis is placed on the
classroom implications of student diversity, learning styles, motivation, memory, classroom dynamics and
management, evaluation of learning, and the principles of reinforcement and the universal design for learning.

This course provides an introduction to the theoretical and practical components of computers in education with
particular reference to their academic, social and cultural implications. The practical component exposes students
to different computing environments and software packages.

This course focuses upon the development of language and its overall relationship to the development of literacy
and numeracy, both within the individual and within the overall classroom setting. Specific topics for discussion
include culture and language, the relationship of language to thought, critical thinking, assessment techniques,
teaching methods, language learning, numeracy learning, and possible intervention strategies designed for
enhancing individual literacy and numeracy skills.

Gain practical classroom experience in a K-12 classroom. Focus on observation, inquiry and reflective planning, and understanding the roles and responsibilities of an education assistant.

This advanced course will provide students with practical classroom experience with special emphasis on the
application of theoretical education policies, methods, and philosophies. Students will expand their knowledge
and skills through active participation in the classroom duties of an Education Assistant.

Prerequisite: XEDU 10007 Classroom Immersion Practicum I
This course provides students with the opportunity to discuss current theory and practice related to the concept and
nature of exceptionality in its various forms within the school environment. Students will learn about common
exceptionalities in the classroom.

Prerequisite: XEDU 10001 The Educational Professional
40 hours
This course explores behavioural strategies, classroom management techniques, and differentiated instruction.
Students will be able to assess the impact of an inclusive classroom across a range of topics with a focus on
identifying the needs of students and implementing appropriate strategies for student program plans.
