Patti Edgar

Patti Edgar is a part-time lecturer in the journalism program who teaches multimedia reporting and feature writing.

Her students have won several awards for projects created in her classroom, including the Canadian Association of Journalists CAJ Student Award of Excellence (2018 and 2017), the MRU Faculty of Business and Communications Student Research Days Award (2019), and the Emerge Media Award for Multimedia Production (2018).

Ms. Edgar worked as a journalist for CBC News for a decade, pioneering online news gathering and production. A cross-platform project she helped create won an Alberta Film and Television Award. Prior to joining CBC, she worked as a daily news reporter for the Ottawa Citizen and the Winnipeg Free Press. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia. She has mentored new writers through the university's Booming Ground program and Calgary's Alexandra Writers' Centre Society. An essay on her own struggles as a student of languages appears in the anthology Waiting (University of Alberta Press, 2018). She enjoys judging Alberta's magazine awards through AMPA and the International Regional Magazine Awards.
