COVID-19
Centre for Sexuality is continuing to support clients remotely as much as possible during the pandemic. We are still responding to emails and phone messages as promptly as possible, and clients can book in for Zoom or phone counselling and education sessions, too. Anyone who wishes to book an appointment with one of our counsellors can self-refer by filling out our Client Information Form online here: https://www.centreforsexuality.ca/programs-workshops/counselling/ Our services are free and confidential.
We have left free condoms and pregnancy tests outside our (closed) office door, which people are welcome to pick up during business hours. We are on the 7th floor of the Centre 15 building downtown (1509 Centre St SW). We are a two-block walk from the Victoria Park/Stampede train station, or there is both paid and free on-street parking around our building. We are not a medical office, so we are not able to offer prescriptions for (or supplies of) other methods of birth control.
Our Education and Training Centre teams are continuing to offer their programs and workshops online while schools and other businesses remain closed. Information about upcoming workshops can be found on our website. We are also continuing to run certain groups/events that used to be in-person online, such as Gender Creative Families, GSAs, and Camp fYrefly.
Because our physical office is closed, we have also temporarily suspended our STI Testing nights, where nurses from Alberta Health and the Safeworks program would come in and offer basic STI screening services. People who would like to be tested for STIs can phone the STI Clinic downtown (403-943-6700) or one of the Sexual and Reproductive Health Clinics if they are 29 years of age or under (www.ahs.ca/srh).
At this point, we are unclear when we will be able to return to the office, but when we do, we will be following all health and safety guidelines to reduce the risk of COVID-19 for our staff, clients, and community partners.
Gabriela Hening from the Centre for Sexuality, joined Stepping Up as a Community Partner during the 2017/2018 academic year. In this video, Gabriela shares information about her role at the Centre for Sexuality and the services they offer around sexuality, relationships, and the 2SLGBTQ community.
